Celebrating Walt Whitman's 200th Birthday

Time:   10am - 4pm

Location:  Penn's Landing, Philadelphia & RiverLink Ferry

Details:   Visit this activity station to color Whitman-inspired posters and explore your poetic side! Meet a Whitman impersonator in the RiverLink ferry and learn all about his life. Visit UPenn Libraries website for more about the University of Pennsylvania's Whitman at 200 initiative. Did you know he lived in Camden, NJ!? 

Delaware River Circuit Ride

Time:   10:00am - 11:00am

Location:   Wiggins Park, Camden to Penn's Landing, Philadelphia

Details:   Led by the Tri-state Transportation Campaign & NJ Conservation Foundation, this ride will take you over the Ben Franklin Bridge from Camden to Philadelphia. This ride BYOB (bring your own bike and helmet!).

Face Painting

Time:   10am - 3:30pm

Location:   Penn's Landing, Philadelphia

Details:   Provided by Stacey's Face Painting. All ages welcome.

Gazela Tours

Time:   10am - 4pm

Location:  Philadelphia

Details:   Check out Philadelphia's tall ship all day on the Philadelphia side. These tours won't be timed, just come aboard and walk through! Learn more about the Tall Ship Gazela.

Independence Seaport Museum

Time:   10am - 4pm

Location:   Penn's Landing, Philadelphia

Details:   FREE BUILDING ADMISSION during festival hours. Explore the museum's exhibitions - including River Alive! Discounted rate to visit National Landmark Historic ships Cruiser Olympia and Submarine Becuna available.

Liberty Yacht Cruises

Times:   11:15am - 3:15pm (Five 45 minute cruises on the hour)

Location:   Independence Seaport Marina, Penn's Landing, Philadelphia

Details:   Click here for more information about free Liberty Yacht cruises along the Delaware River! Tickets are available on a first come first serve basis on the day of the festival. Visit the information table inside the Riverview Terrace for tickets.

Paddle & Pedal Boats

Time:   10am - 4pm

Location:   Independence Seaport Marina, Penn's Landing, Philadelphia

Details:   Free boating opportunities at the Independence Seaport Marina including kayaks and swan boats! Get your tickets at the ticket booth and enjoy the ride. Must be 18+ or accompanied by an adult.

River Fest Quest

Time:   10am - 4pm

Location:   Penn's Landing, Philadelphia

Details:   Grab a quest map from the main information table and explore the festival. Complete as many activities as you can for a chance to win an exclusive Delaware River Fest Quest pin!

RiverLink Ferry

Time:   10am - 4pm

Location:   Penn's Landing, Philadelphia & Wiggins Park, Camden

Details:   Ride the ferry across the Delaware River to get to the either side of the festival with a wristband, given out at information tables on either side. Contact information will be collected per family for the wristbands. Enjoy programming while your cruising - the bottom deck for a naturalist's expertise or the top deck for a special Walt Whitman impersonator!

River Rise Challenge

Time:   11:00am - 3pm

Location:  Inside the Independence Seaport Museum, Philadelphia

Details:  Students between 14 and 21 years old will be asked to help the City of Philadelphia plan for and recover from a simulated, record-breaking flood. This involves developing a disaster plan, a prototype design or a web/mobile application. Each team/participant will have ten minutes. Presentations are open to the public. This challenge is coordinated by the NAVSUP WSS. Learn more here.

TEACH FLEET Build-a-Ship

Time:   10am to 4pm

Location:   Inside of the Independence Seaport Museum, Penn's Landing, Philadelphia, PA

Details:   For ages 5 and up. Visit one of sixteen boat building stations and receive a 'boat captain' certificate after building a boat out of Legos! Get your picture taken (Polaroid style) with your completed boat and then... demolish it for the next captain.
